Answer
Hi Cassie,

Most Chihuahuas will have reached their adult height by eight months of age, but still look very "puppy-ish". After 8 months of age, most will "fill out" until they are about two years of age.

There is a great variety in the size of Chihuahuas. The AKC breed standard is 6 pounds, no bigger, but there are plenty of "non-standard" Chihuahua's out there, many with AKC papers weighing up to 10 pounds.

Regarding your grandmother's puppy, it's not normal that a 3 month old puppy shouldn't be growing. Before assuming that the puppy is the "runt" of the litter and is just going to be small, the puppy should be examined by a veterinarian to rule out a possible medical problem that could slow it's growth, such as a heart murmur.

I hope I've been a help.
Best of luck,

Patti
