puppy aggression towards adults mealtimes

Question
I have a 4 year old german shephard and she is a laid back dog.  Excellent behavior.  We currently brought , we think, a 4-5 month old german shephard pup into our household.   They get along with each other except when it comes to mealtimes.  The puppy will not let my 4 year old eat without barking and be aggressive towards her.  What should I do when it comes to mealtimes?  How do I discipline my puppy so that they eat together and out of their own bowls without any aggression from my puppy.

Answer
Hello Brenda,

Your new German Shepherd puppy is acting this way because he had competition in the past, litter mates.  This same thing happened to me when I brought my new Standard Poodle home.  He didn't let my 2 year old eat and was growling when my other dog tried to have his meals.  This is what I did, I feed the pup first and led him away from the kitchen to another room.  Then I went back without him and fed my older boy.  I did this several days and then tried to feed them again together.  I put on bowl down on one side of the kitchen and other one down on the other side.  This was helping and finally they did eat together.  Give it a try.  I hope it helps you.
