QuestionHi Nancy
I am very concerned about my female white bull terrier. Her nose is hard and leathery - and was going blackish at one stage. A friend who has had bull terriers has shown me how to take out the ingrown hairs that are causing the black colour - and I have done so carefully, applying disinfectant cream afterwards. However, after a bout of tick bite fever about 4 months ago, her overall condition of health is low. For the past few weeks, her nose has been swollen and the skin breaks easily - it is very red (I have not touched it for about 3 months). I truly have no idea what to do. Cream (aqueous/ E45 cream and disinfectant cream) does not work. On the other front, her coat is lacklustre and her eyes are full of gunk. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
AnswerNiki,
I answered this two days ago, but I guess it didn't go through...I think you should go back to the vet and get another round of antibiotics......I don't like that her eyes are still gunky. I have seen dogs go blind from that tick fever. Get a blood test to check her platelets, and get her on a high protein diet with a vitamin mineral supplement.
Second add Omega III fatty acids to her diet every day...these can be purchased in a pharmacy that carries vitamins. Also, get some zinc oxide cream and put it on her nose. Zinc is a mineral in the body that helps healing. She may be low on it since she has been ill.
That tick fever is terrible,, I would appreciate you letting me know how she makes out. I hope you get this as you didn't last time
