pitbull/boxer mix

Question
i adopted a full grown pit/boxer mix (tobey) who is about 18 months old, he seems very submissive. i brought him around my relatives dogs and he showed a little aggression but that was after those dogs charged my other dog (a miniature pinscher) a few weeks ago tobey got out and i got a notice from animal control for having an unlicensed dog. my problem is socializing him with adult men. he has no problems with my roommates and with women but if another adult male is around he cowers and sometimes barks. and when he sees other dogs he often gets excited and seems to want to play, usually his tail is wagging and he whines.  but my worst fear is that he will bite someone or another dog out of fear. what is the best way to socialize him with other dogs and other adult men or people in general so i don't have to worry about him biting. i know there is always the possibility but all the reading i have done has said the more i socialize him the better he will be. people already have the stigma about pits and he really is just a 65lb lapdog.

Answer
Hi Bob;
I think you are being very realistic!
This could be a big problem for sure..
My suggestion is to get him to a "Class" asap!!!
This way, he will have to be in an unfamiliar area, with other types of people and events..this will give him the unexpected!
And, he will be a lot more calm when others are introduced into your environment.

So, get going..."Petsmart" and the Park, and there are other resources through your Vet, and maybe a local shelter will give you a class option.
Let me know how you go and best of Luck!
Regards,
Melissa
