Question about dog bathing

Question
Hi,

I recently adopted a 2-year old poodle/terrier mix (based on her appearance I think she's a poodle/Cairn terrier) and I have a question about bathing her.

She has a quite thick, wavy coat on her body and head, and more poodle-like curls on her legs. At the moment I'm bathing her about once every 2 weeks, and I'm wondering if I can wash her more often. Her coat gets extremely greasy after about 5 or 6 days, and begins to take on a much stronger odor. The texture of it, both when it's washed and when it's greasy, is basically just like human hair. I've tried using dry shampoos and doggie bath wipes, as well as baking soda and baby powder (all of which were recommended to me by various people) but none of these things help for more than about half a day or so.

I know that it's not recommended to bathe a dog often, but I'm wondering if there are exceptions to the rule with certain types of dog? Do you think I could bathe her, say, once a week?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
I would think you could bathe her more often, as long as you are using a shampoo formulated for DOGS and not human shampoo.  Dogs' skin has a different pH than humans, and be sure to rinse all the shampoo out thoroughly so the shampoo doesn't dry and cause the skin to itch.

If you continue to have problems, I would contact some professional groomers in your area and see what they suggest.
