new puppy, depressed older dog

Question
I recently got a new puppy, and my older dog is exhibiting signs of depression. Not eating, not drinking enough water, throwing up yellowish bile, inactive, distracted, won't show me any attention or acknowledge my presence. Thoughts/advice?

Answer
The throwing up bile could be from not eating.  The best thing to do is to lavish attention on it.  Petting, walks, brushing, talking to it, whatever it likes.  With a little luck, it will do better.

Don't let the puppy plague it.  Once past 3 years old, many dogs don't want anything to do with puppies, their sharp little teeth, and their biting games.  You need to teach the puppy to leave the older dog alone.  As soon as the puppy starts to focus on the older dog, give it a sharp ''Ah, ah, ah!'' and offer it a chew toy.
