Rotti/Lab has eye issue

Question
Hey there, hopefully you can help me. My rotti/lab mix is just over two years old. she is crated trained and doesn't get into any trouble or anything, which makes me wonder what is going on. I know she hasn't gotten into anything, but I let her outside this morning and as I watched her I noticed she was barely keeping her eyes open. I let her in and she just went into the living room and laid down on the floor, still not being able to keep her eyes open. They have been really red and watery all day. I have rinsed them out with water several times during the day, and they have gotten better, but they are still really red. It is kind of making me nervous. If this continues into tomorrow I will call the vet. The only reason I didn't call the vet today is because I am nine months pregnant and am actually due on the 9th, this Saturday. I am worried that I am going to be taking care of her and I will go into labor or something. So hopefully this is something that I can clear up at home in the next couple of days. Can you help me and give me some advice on what you think I should do? Have any ideas as to what it is and what I can do to maybe clear it up?

Answer
Hi, this sounds like a rather bad infection and should be treated with the vets, for mild...sligtly runny white goup in the eyes) infection Polysporn people eye drops for the drug store three times a day two drops per eye clears it up in 5/7 days but for really sticky eyes and severly red eyes the vet must be seen and the dog will be prescribed drops or ointment for the eyes.
