Weimaraner afraid to go for walks

Question
Hello,
I have a 4 1/2 year old, male neutered, Weimaraner.  Recently when I take him for walks he will only go one block.  He just sits or pulls away like he is afraid.  I tried several different ways around the block, but he still is afraid.  I have tried to bring treats to encourage him but he won't even eat the treats! Highly unusual for him.  Any ideas as to what his behavior might mean?  And also how can I encourage him for walks.  Also, I took him to the park, he sniffed for a few minutes, then refused to go any further and headed back for our car.  I am totally baffled.  Please let me know if you can help.  Thanks so much.
Linda

Answer
I can't say what is happening.  Such a change is not to be expected at his age.  It could be something physical.  Take him in for a check up explaining the behavior to the vet.

If the vet doesn't find anything, you could try what I do with a little puppy that won't walk.  If getting out in front and coaxing doesn't get a puppy moving, try dropping behind it and running by in baby steps calling ''Go, go, go!'' In a happy, excited voice.
