Sore on neck

Question
I took my 7 year old pit bull to be groomed last Saturday for the first time.  I usually do it myself but decided to try someone.  She developed a pink spot on the back of her neck and now it is an open sore.  It is not weepy, oozing, or bleeding but is wet and some fur has fallen out.  I do have an appointment to get it checked out and I am concerned that it may have had something to do with the grooming.  please let me know your thoughts.  I did like the fact of her going to a groomer but I would not like to put her through this happening again.

Answer
Dear Melissa,
I am sooo sorry that happened! The first thing that comes to mind is they put a snap lock loop on her to attach her to the table or where ever they kept her. Does it look like that to you? It was pinched or too tight. DON'T go back to that place and certainly complain. Had you complained immediately they would be liable for the Vet bill and you can still try to be compensated. It could also be a reaction to the metal or overbrushing.
The fact that you have a pit bull can be a red flag to  some grooming places so they over compensate the control factor. Make sure you question the next next place that you go to before hand to judge for yourself they have no bias towards your breed- It is what is known as a "tub dog" in salon parlay - just a bath no haircut- so it should be a snap - in and out. Usually it is done by a trainee or someone who just bathes dogs and is not necessarily so experienced and certainly not the same pay scale.

Frankly, I always bath and groom my on animals and always advise folks they are better off doing it themself=ves whenever possible.

hope this helps!
