Chronic Hepatitis in canaine ; recipes for dogs with poor liver ;

Hi, My 4 year old Doberman girl has just been diagnosed with Chronic Hepatitis and hasn't been given a very good outlook. I am looking for home made recipes I can make for her that will support her and give her all the nutrients she needs aswell as avoiding the ingredients that will make it worse such as foods rich in copper.
Any help you may be able to give will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Melissa, So sorry about this... with good nutrition and supplements she can have a quality life.  I have worked with many Liver disease dogs and have had great luck with our recipes.

Sample   ( Liver ( hepatic ) diet)
Size of portions:
I think this recipe would make 2 meals for you?
(one meal for a 100 lb dog, or two meals for a 50 lb dog, or four meals for a 25 pound dog)

- One lb  Lower Fat  hamburger,  cook with small amount of butter
egg - 1  scrambled or soft boiled
- 1/2 cup steamed or boiled broccoli  ( you can ground this )
- 1/2 cup cooked yellow crookneck squash
- 4 oz whole milk yogurt*** see here: 2 %
**( FOR YOUR dog use 2 % Milk Yogurt - lower in fat just for your LIVER girl)

Cook meat, eggs and vegetables and mix. When cooled, add yogurt.
1/4 cup of low fat yogurt or goat milk yogurt can be used daily...

( MUST add supplement - see below for NuVET Powder)

Sample   ( liver -  diet)

- One lb ground pork,  cook with small amount of butter
egg -- 1 , scrambled or soft boiled
- 1/2 cup steamed or boiled Bok Choy or Chinese cabbage
( IF she will eat it????  TEST a small amount of meat and cabbage first BEFORE you mix it all in)
- 1/2 cup zucchini  - you can grind this up....
- 4 oz Whole Milk Yogurt ****( 2 % for your Liver disease Dog)

Cook meat, eggs and vegetables and mix. When cooled, add yogurt.


SUPPLEMENT - MUST ADD SUPPLEMENTS  - GIVE 1/2 OF A NUVET TEASPOON - POWDER JUST 2 X PER DAY FOR YOUR SIZED DOG.  ( 1/2 teaspoon 2 x per day ) or 1/2 wafer treat of NuVET 2 x per day.

I hope she likes one of the recipes - If you have to take the VEGGIES out and only feed the meat and yogurt....that is fine.
Just need to get some nutrition into this kid.  The NuVET will balance out the diet.

Lactulose for dogs:
ASK the VET about lactulose liquid *** to prevent the manufacture and absorption of toxins such as ammonia.
It helps the toxins to move out of the body thru the poop.
Many dogs take 2 Lactulose dosages per day.
They will poop 2-3 x per day because of the lactulose.



Here is a supplement that tends to help dogs with liver disease- worth a shot if you can get it into her.  YOU can place the supplements in peanut butter or even some cooked up chicken that has been ground with gravy.
