Question
Hello, I have a 3 year old German Shepherd that I adopted about a year ago.  At that time I took him to a vet because he was a bit of a mess.....ear infections, worms, diarrhea, thin etc. the vet casually mentioned pancreatitis, gave me enzymes and a pamphlet and sent us on our way. He recovered fine. I had him on Royal Canin food to start. Due to suspected grain allergy I recently switched him to Innova EVO Large bites.  His allergy symptoms went away almost immediately & I was very pleased with the results.....except he became sick this past week.  High fever, vomiting, diarrhea, inappetance, depression, lethargy and dehydration. The vet gave him some meds and sub-cu fluids and he improved a bit but the diarrhea still remains.  Very loose, greasy & malodorous - sometimes yellowish. I believe that the new EVO diet pushed him into a bout of pancreatitis. I would like to know your opinion and recommendation on what to feed him.  I know the vet will push Science Diet or Royal Canin prescription diet but I want a more natural type of diet (keep in mind the grain allergy).  Would the EVO Reduced Fat be a possibility? Other options?  Thank you.

Answer
Good morning, Megan.

I would, yes, try the Evo Reduced Fat.  If that doesn't clear things up enough, you can try Wellness Core Reduced Fat which is another grain free food, but lower in protein and fat.  If the problems persist, I would consider having him tested for pancreatic insufficiency.

Please keep me updated.
