playing with boston terrier

Question
I just got a rescued 6 year old boston terrier who will not play with toys, ball, etc. only wants to be on your lap. She s precious! I just lost a 15 yr old cocker who did nothing but play ball and have tons of toys left over. We ve done everything to try to get this dog interested in playing, but she just wants to lick us and be close to us. Any ideas?  We re thinking that the previous owner, and older man with cancer didnt play with her.Thank you

Answer
Hello,
First off...Thank you for rescueing.  That is a great thing to do.
Well, like you had really figured out on your own she may not know how to play because the older man was accepting of her sitting on his lap.  Try taking her to a dog park or if you have friends with dogs her size that play with toys let her see that is ok to play like that.  It may take her a while......OR she may be just content to sit and be your loving companion.  Just accept her for who she is and try not to compare her to previous dogs.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Tammy
