-----Question-----
i have a carin terrier about 9 mo.s old he is healthy and has had all his shots.     i have notice what i can explains a little bumps on his back by the tail , i find no fleas or ticks.  could this be a skin problem, he eats regular dog food but some times people food not to much though .his next vet appt. is 6 months away can you tell me anything that i should do or not do thank you
-----Answer-----
Tom -

Cairns do tend to have sensitive skin.  As long as it is not itching him a lot, growing or changing color, or he starts losing hair there, I wouldn;t worry too much.

Just make sure to point them out to the vet on your next visit.  Now - If any of those things DO happen, please make a sooner appointment.

Sometimes a simple change of dog food to a good quality chicken-based food will help (My rescue dogs get a fish based formula just to be sure we are healing up their skin problems). I;d be happy to recommend some brands, but need to know whether you are willing to buy his food at a pet store or just stick to grocery store brands.

and you are going to get him neutered, right ?

At 9 months he's in adolscence and is probably quite an amusing character !

thank you for you help right now i am feeding him iams and sometimes kibbles and bits , i can buy at a pet store what would you reccommend for him.......and he is a character he does like to play once again thank you for you help

Answer
Obviously, I love cairns or I wouldn't have fosters going through my house all the time - In fact my new one is coming tomorrow !

If you're able to go to a pet store, I would recommend Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. Other excellent brands are Wellness, Eagle, Nature's Variety.

If you are buying in a grocery store, stick with Iams or Purina One.  As I said, cairns are prone to skin and coat problems, so you need to stay away from foods with more fillers or yucky ingredients.
