Pee and Poo

Question
I have a male Rat Terrier, he is 8 months old. I got it last month and he is doing ok with potty training, but he drives me nuts when he comes and with his paws ask me to let him out for pee about 8 times a day and poo like 5 times a day

He should not be having to go out 8 times a day to potty and 5 times a day for poops!  That is ridiculous. It sounds like he just wants to go out to nose around and while he is there he goes.  Its not unkind to put him in a crate for a few hours a day that way he won't be asking to go out.  

Also if he is pooping that much you could be over feeding him or have him on a substandard food.  The better foods tends to process better than the cheaper foods do.  SO the poops are less and harder.  OR you could be over feeding which tends to make them poop more.  ALSO if you are free feeding....which is a BIG NO-NO.  Feed 2 times a day and not leave it down if he does not finish.
