Aggressive Pit Bull

Question
I live near St. Louis.  My daughter works at a kennel, and a customer abandoned a 1yr old female pit bull.  My daughter brought her home hoping to work with her on obedience, and get her a better home.  We have discovered she is aggressive towards other animals.  She is great with people from what we can tell so far.  We can't keep her with her aggression, because we are worried about what will happen to our horses, chickens, cats, and other dogs.  She wants to get our Minature Pinscher so bad, and if she ever gets to her, I know it will be the end of the little one, which I would not be able to bear.

My daughter has been trying to break her of this aggression, but is not having any luck.  Someone came to see about taking her, and had a pit bull pup.  We thought that she would be okay with a pup, but she tried biting it in the face.

All of the animal shelters in the area are full, we can't keep her, give her away.  Is there any hope in breaking her of this aggression, or finding her a home?

All we keep getting suggestions on is putting her down, and I'm having such a hard time with that idea.  It is not my nature to just get rid of dog like that, but if she were to hurt any of our other pets, it would be worse of a heartache for me.

Do you have any ideas, suggestions?   Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hello Kathy:  I am sorry to say that I don't have the answer you need or are looking for.  As you know, this doesn't sound good for your family.  This dog will need some extensive behavior training and that will cost $$$.

You can bring her back to the kennel and ask them to help pay for some professional training.  She would need to go and live at the training facility.  ( Board and Train).

You can't keep her for fear of your own family and pets.  You have a good heart but there is not much you can do.  Unless you want to invest 1000.00 or more for her behavior modification.

Best Wishes in All you do!  Thanks for your question.
