Question
Why is my dogs front elbows itching all the time? She itches contstantly at the elbows. They seem so sore. We have been to the vet many times and nothing has helped. We have tried non-prescribed medicines, but we are from a small town and are not very sure about the doctors medications. She is not a kennel dog. She is a retreiver so she is outside alot, but is very well taken care of. Please Help Us.

Answer
If the vet can't fix the problem, likely I can't either.  For most skin and coat problems, I suggest making sure the dog is getting a good diet by feeding it a dry commercial chow and little else, seldom if ever bathing it, and a good daily brushing with a soft bristled brush.  Beyond that for itchy elbows, make sure it has a soft place to lay on in the room it prefers.  Doesn't mean the dog will use it.  My one dog rubbed the hair off his elbows sleeping on the stone fire place hearth.  You could try spraying Alpha Keri on the elbows.  You find it in cosmetics, not pet supplies.

I don't claim to have all the answers, but do the best I can.
