Question
I ahve a 4 month old black alb male. His two middle toes turn in.The breeder said this could be because of teethihng. All the calcium goes to his teeth. What do you think? He hs a lot of bone and I noticed this about when he was 8 9 weeks old.

Answer
Did your vet comment on it when you had him in for shots?  I have seen thousands of well bred labs and don't remember any of them doing that, certainly none of the 20 my family has raised.

What are you feeding?  Excess calcium can interfere with the body being able to use the calcium it needs.  I would switch him to adult chow and avoid any supplements as the dog guide school I raise puppies for.  They have no other agenda  than producing strong, healthy dogs.  Dogs with joint problems cannot be used as intended.  They have bred thousands of dogs, X-rayed their hips, and kept track of them over their whole life. They keep careful breeding records. They desperately want sound dogs.  They say switch to adult food at 4 months.  I have done that, and all 14 of the dogs I have turned in passed the X-rays of their hips.

Too much  of too rich of a diet is the worst thing you can do for a large breed puppy.  Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them.  Each dog is different.  Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog must have its food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs.
