Hair shedding of labrador dog

Question
I have a yellow labrador(India) aged about 1.5 yrs.He eats the same cooked food as we take including wheat bread, pulses, seeds, green vegetables, milk, curd, fruits and sometimes boiled non-veg. He is loving, cheerful and playful. He sheds hair badly in warm season. His skin becomes visible in patches. His coat becomes good in moderate and cold weather. As any other dog, he licks us out of affection. Does it in any way affect our health adversely? We intend to install a/c in our house. Is it advisable that our labrador be with us in the same a/c room?

Answer
It sounds like he isn't getting the right diet.  Unlike us, dogs can't digest most vegetables unless highly processed. Trying to formulate a diet yourself that will give him the nutrition he needs is very difficult.  The best thing for him is a commercial dog food.  If you are concerned about feeding meat, your could feed Purina or other corn based food.  It is mostly grain, but the ingredients have been highly processed to make them digestible to dogs. It has also been tested on dogs and proven to be a complete and balanced diet.

Being licked by a dog seldon causes problems, but it is a good practice to wash your hands before eating.

Dogs love A/C.  One great advantage of keeping your dog in your house is that it is able to enjoy the A/c too.
