Deaf Jack Russell attacking his sister.

Question
I have two Jack Russells that have grown up together, Tax and Dottie.  They are sister and brother about 10 years old.  The male is deaf (Taz) but has always responded well to hand signals.  He has begun to attack his sister (Dottie).  Usually it happens when I am leaving in the morning and they are standing at the door together but he has attacked her at other times.  When I try to break them up he growls at me and bares his teeth.  We tried Selegline but nothing changed and now have him on Amitriptyline every 12 hours.  He has been on this for about five days and just as I was leaving this morning he attached his sister again.  We are at our wits end.  My husband wants to use a shock collar so I can shock him when he jumps his sister.  He also recently had a benign tumor removed from his anus so I am hoping he does noit have brain cancer.  The Vet has not mentioned this. HELP!!!

Answer
Hello,

This is quite normal for jack russells my jack rusell who is 2 years old and neutered will turn against my mothers bichon/shituz/mini american escamo when she is jumping on the door to come in normaly they quite like each other and he is my only dog her dog will play with other then her mother as she is 7 years old and doesnt normaly roughhouse with any other dogs at all. But he will see her squealing and jumping and he goes what I reffer to as nuts as he takes a wicked turn and goes and starts agressivly biting her neck I  yell and grab his collar....so strange he never attempted this with any of my other dogs or her other dog either.  I think he is probaly just reacting to you leaving or he is just plain jelus is it possible she is geting more attention during the time this behaiver poped up? Pills for agression I see no point in using like I said and staed jacks are agressive dogs and can attakc other dog when they are provoced or very jelus or in my dogs case I'm not sure why. I can not reccomend a shock collar to anyone for any breed of dog I find them to be very cruel for bark prohibation or otherwise and with an older dog that has never used one before I would be extremly wary. When he is attacing his sister push them apart with your foot/leg and then grab the female by thre collar and pick her up really quick this way you wont force the male to be agressive toward you for parting them and she wont get badly bitten. I have heard of dogs with a tumar inside the head and this was my friends labrador retreiver...years ago he had a yellow labrador retreiver this dog was about 100 pounds not overweight just a very large lab well trained and there family loved him patiularly my friend...but the dog had a growing tumar inside his head and eventually sicne it couldnt be operated on with a very very high death risk they let him be but the tumr eventully sunk his eye back into his head and he was doing very badly...he had also had three hip replacments one on one back leg then two on the other side...he nwas around 10 or 11 he told me when he was Forced to put him down due to the tumar in his head. Also on tv show called campus vets I saw a boxer aged 2 years old with a cancerus tumar in her head right in her brain she was expected to live on months and rather then risk the surgery the lady took her home to care for her during this time she also had her on meds to pervent the growth getting larger and pain meds i think as well. It is possible but i dont think thats what it is...taking him in to a good vets office and explianing the story may get better anwsers.
