Question
Hi.we have two Jacks, one ,Mick is 13,the other, Buddy is almost 11.Both are neutered and good dogs.Buddy has taken to marking some of the hall walls,my stereo speakers, guitar cases, most anything left on the floor.
I immediately scold him, clean up and whenever possible treat affected area with Natures miracle.
I really want to get new carpeting and someday would love some more Jack's but I am concerned.
My Wife and I got to work so we are not Home from 9 till 1.

Any recommendations?
Thanks so much in advance

Answer
Hello David,
Your dogs sound wonderful - and I'm sorry to hear that Buddy is having some control problems. It is most likely just a natural descent into old age,(he is 84 in dog years)- they start to lose some urgency control and some other not so fun behaviors. You may start to see some confusion and odd behaviors as they age even more.  However, to be absolutely sure I recommend you take him to the vet to be tested for a urinary tract infection, because that can also cause an increase in urinating and less control.  Lastly, unless you catch him in the act, scolding does nothing but confuse him; you can't scold him at 1:00pm for peeing at 9:30 that morning, they don't understand. I know it can be very frustrating! I would wait on the new carpeting, unfortunately because of the dog's ages, you will most likely be experiencing some more frequent accidents. Best of luck with your wonderful Jacks.
