first season

I have a wee jack russell she is only four months and she seems to be having her first season is this normal as i wanted to get her dressed before her first bleed

Hi Elaine,

Are you from Ireland by any chance? I love the way you speak in your letter. While there is no real "set" time a dog goes into season, it "usually" is at nine months to one year of age. She seems young to be in heat already but it does happen.  You can still have her spayed (dressed?) during the heat cycle but it would be best to wait until it is over. This will not negatively affect her in any way. Best of luck with your new puppy, and keep her away from the males!!
