Question
Hi, I am a proud owner of nearly 5 months old (in August 3rd) JRT Millie. We have Millie since she was 6 weeks old. She is well socialized and for her age relatively well trained (she knows basic commands:sit, down, out,in,bed, come etc). We would like to get her companion (she is very good with other dogs) and ourselves second JRT. We are considering to get male puppy from the same breeder but from different litter. I came across some horrifying articles on the internet that it is not recommended to have two JRTs in one household. That they can kill each other over a toy ... please advice is that true? Or can I have two JRTs - happy adult dogs, well trained and obedient? We are planning family and we would like to make the right decision.Thank you

Answer
Hello, Two jacks can be kept together if not how would anyone be a breeder? But yes they are tempermental with one another and a simple bickerment over a toy can lead to bloodshed to minimize such things please check mywebsite pages:

I have two terriers not both jacks but a boston terrier and a jack russell terrier....they bicker often and pick fights and they are no longer allowed to have chews or rawhides unless crated seperately because of an eye injury when my boston was only 5 months old(Jack russell terrier stole her rawhide after he had eaten his and she tryed to get it back only to get bitten!...the white of her eye was bitten and just outside the eye thankgoodness she hadnt lost her vision or worse yet...her eye) That was a wakeup call to me to pay more attention it was to put it bluntly horrifing to see and experaicne for me and Hannah(boston terrier) You'll do best with a male puppy indeed as two female jacks are said to be worse then two males! Also I mean not to scare you but Jacks don't often care for children they are not a breed well suited to taunting children and my own jack russell who will snuggle up to my enices and newpews(6 months to 2 years of age) will just as quickly turn sheepish and Snap if his hair is pulled so its something that must be watched. Getting another dog is a wonderful idea if you will be having kids and maybe wont be as attentive to the dog as before having a palymate makes life better but with the breed you will then have two non child friendly dogs and I'm a firm beliver if you get a dog you should keep it until its dieing day. also jacks are very jealus dogs very very jealus over other dogs and and will likely be this way with a new baby as well when I say jealus i mean not only are they acctacking you for more attention but they also get easily depressed if ignored.
