Three Jack Russells Together

Question

Riley and Annie
I have owned Jack Russell terriers for about twenty-five years. For the past ten years, I have had the father and his very first female puppy that is now seven years old. Over the years, the father [stud] has covered the same female three times and two others respectively.

The latest litter produced two puppies [male & female] that are now three weeks old. I have fallen in love with the male because he is showing all the signs that have made his father so very special.

I am seriously thinking about keeping the male puppy. The female we have is spayed, but the father is still a stud. I am concerned about the three getting along with each other and would appreciate any experience and insight you may have with this issue.

Answer
Hi Robert,
Although nothing is "certain", I don't think you will have any problems what-so-ever with the three of them together. Just make sure from the start that you do proper training and provide proper discipline.  Puppies can drive any adult dog crazy because they are puppies! The older dogs have to learn tolerance and acceptance and the puppy has to learn that he is at the very bottom of the chain of command. Just make sure the puppy learns his place, follows the older dogs in, gets last choice, can't steal the others things, etc. Don't allow growling of the older dogs or any signs of aggression at all.
There are no guarantees ever, but with the proper training I think they will do just fine. The dogs have their own system in place and that puppy will eventually follow their lead.
You are an experienced and loving Jack owner and will have no problems getting things in order.  FYI - I have four jacks that all live together in harmony, it can be done!
Best of luck!  I love the picture of Riley and Annie!
