Brushing our 3 mo. old Jack Russell

Question
We have a 3 month old Jack Russell.  We recently tried brushing him to get the
loose hairs, but when we did, he kind of went crazy - he got very squirmy and
started barking at the comb.  Any time we brought the comb out, he would
start barking and trying to bite the comb.  We have tried a few different
combs, included a glove comb, but he isn't comfortable with any of them.
Any ideas on how we can get him used to the combs we have? Or, do you
have a comb that you recommend?

Answer
Hi Cynthia,

Just keep on using it.
Continual exposure and use will get him used to it. Some things they just HAVE to get used to!! Don't push down too hard but don't NOT do it because he doesn't like it. He WILL get used to it.  It's like the vacuum cleaner...they bark, try to bite it, etc... and if you give in to that you'd never vacuum your house! They have to learn to accept it and have to be taught that this is just the way it's going to be. If you stop, you are sending him a message that HE is the boss. Keep brushing!
Don't over-bathe or over-brush, their coats are pretty well self-maintained. A couple of times a week to brush is enough, and even less bathing (unless of course he is a muddy mess!)
Good luck with the new pup!
