Question
our female jack Russell terrier won't eat regular dog food.  she loves treats. she's the runt of the litter and small anyway.  we've been giving her iams puppy food for almost a year.  she'll be 1 year old in September, but lately she won't eat it.  we've also just got a male jack Russell so they will mate.  he eats everything. our little girl only wants treat bones and denta bones.
does anyone have any ideas?

thanks,
Russell %26 Pam

Answer
Hi Pamela,
She's probably just bored with the food - and if you want, you can switch her over now to an adult brand, a few weeks shy of one year isn't going to harm her in anyway.  Also, stick to a regular feeding schedule (same time every single day# and leave it down for a half an hour and then take the bowls up and don't put them back down until the next feed time. She will learn very quickly that if she wants to eat, NOW is the time #that the bowls are down).  Don't give any more treats whatsoever. They should only be used as a reward for doing something anyway. At one year, she's smart and will learn very quickly what is expected of her, and believe me she won't go hungry for very long.
All the best, and good luck.
