JR compatibility

Question
My son has a two yr. JR. He was recently married and his wife wants a dog of "her own". She doesn't really want another JR. The JR of my son's is an unneutered male. He stays outside during the day and inside at night. Are there any breeds that are especially compatable to JR's. They do not have room for a large dog. Something about the same size as a JR perhaps. I have looked a numerous JR sites and have not found one that mentions compatible breeds.  Thank you for you help.

Answer
Hello Elaine

Wanting a dog of her own really doesn't make any sense to me, and bringing another dog into an UN-NEUTERED male dogs home is going to be tricky - unless he's an absolute marshmellow. It's not that Jacks are particularly incompatible with other dogs, but the fact that he is alone (which means he IS the dominant dog) and he is not neutered(lots of testosterone), there will likely be aggression problems. My best advice is to tell your daughter in law to bond with this jack who will love her unconditionally as long as she loves him (they know!). If she is insistent about getting a new dog, she should go with a passive breed. I have enclosed a link to a website that list the less dominant breeds that she could consider. It sounds very silly to me! I wish them luck.
Take care,
Carol

Click on FIND THE PERFECT DOG, and it will give you a big list of breeds - you click on each breed and read about it and find one that is passive/submissive.
