Alfie is losing his teeth, is this normal?

Question
Hi, I have a 6 month old Jack Russell called Alfie and we recently left him with my parents whilst we went on holiday. Whilst we were away they informed us that he went off his normal food and they gave him other alternatives. When he came back to our house he was the same but we thought it was because he was being fussy and wanted treats, however we have noticed that he has lost 2 teeth in as many days. Is this normal at this age and is there anything we should be doing?

Thanks

Answer
Hello Cathy,

There's nothing to worry about. It's very common for puppies to lose their first set of teeth for up to 12 months. Being in a different environment probably made him a little nervous and not feel like eating. I suspect he was spoiled at your parents house and got a taste of the good stuff! As you know, Jacks can be particularly stubborn when they want to be but don't give in. Give him his regular food at the regular time and I promise you when he's hungry he'll eat it!
One thing I want to add about the teeth - make it a habit during this time to check your pups mouth and teeth, to make sure there are no occlusions (impacted teeth) and bring him to the vet if there is ever a bad smell in his mouth.
Best of luck to all of you. Save the "spoiling" for the grandparents! :))
