Question
Hi there,

My class is doing a research project, and I was wondering if you could answer some questions for me. It would be greatly appreciated if you helped with my project! My research topic is about Golden Retrievers.

Here are my questions:

1) Are they any behavior differences between male and female Golden Retrievers?

2) Are there any specific things that Golden Retrievers are afraid of, or dislike?

3) What is the best method for training a Golden Retriever, and why?

4) What toys do most Golden Retrievers prefer?

5) What is the best food for Golden Retrievers to eat?

6) What is the best way to exercise a Golden Retriever?

Sincerely,
Angela Zhou

Answer
1 Not too much.  The males maybe a little more attention seeking and perhaps stronger willed.

2 I haven't seen anything different from other breeds.  A huge factor with any dog is its early socialization.  A dog that had a variety of experience between 6 and 12 weeks will show little fear.

3 They are quick to learn and respond well to positive methods.

4 A tennis ball.  They like other balls too and Nylabones.

5 Almost any of the commercial dry kibbles is fine.  Many of the more expensive brands make extravagant claims about better ingredients, but all the foods are formulated to exceed the same AAFCO recommendations.

6 A good game of fetch.  You can buy a ''Chuckit''.  It allows you to throw a tennis ball further.
