hi, i was just wandering what the average size of a litter is and how long are german sheperds pregnant for. thanks

The average for my bitches is from 5 to ten puppies right now for they are young and this is a load, just had nine, actually ten, lost one female in birth canal 7 hours, did not know it or would of walked on labor to save it.

Was a first litter from Rosetta from Germany to Gino from Germany, all nice pups gone to CA to FL states.   The gestation period is from 53 to 66 days to whelp pups, but Sasha whelps 4 or 5 days early than due date.  Why, I do not know.  So, I have to be very watchful of her, bred now for March 29 pups but she might go into labor the 25.

Of course Shepherds can have a dozen also.  I expect larger litters on my two gals now, whelped last may and june, one had 5, other had 7 first litters.  You never know, Gino has long ties, usually breeds late in cycle, I think I get larger nicer litters and puppies.
