German Shepherd Reverse Aggression

Question
We have an 11 month old german shepherd that when fed, must be accompanied or will become aggressive when you try to part from the feeding area to the point of biting. Is there any advice or reccomendations as to what would be the appropriate action to take to try to correct this behavior? Also when family members come home, he barks aggressively til door is opened, but has view of them before they enter... HELP!!!

Answer
Better leadership should help with both problems.  The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.

Neutering him if not already usually helps too.
