Question
Hello...I am writing about an odd  thing that happened with our GS pup...he is a 7 1/2 month old pure black sheperd....what happened was my husband was walking in the basement with Jorn about to take him for his usual walk... when Jorn seemed to be focused on something..either the cat or the light...he looked up and my husband said Jorn just feel over...like he fainted..my husband then knelt down beside him..ask "whats wrong boy" and Jorn kind of shook himself out of it..it lasted only seconds..10 seconds maybe....and seemed as if nothing happened,he checked the pups eyes..they where a nice pink..tounge was wet..nose was dry and warm..but all seemed fine..any clue as to what this may mean if any?
We are very concerned as we just lost a wolfhound about 3 weeks ago to bloat :( should we be taking Jorn to the vet?He is to be fine and eating and everything now...are we worring about nothing?
Thanks for any help you can offer

Answer
Hi, it sounds like your puppy might possibly have epilepsy.  It is not that uncommon in German Shepherds.  If you know the breeder, you might contact them and see if any of his parents, siblings etc. might have had epilepsy.  As far as taking him to the vet, you might want to wait it out a little and see if he has more episodes.  Sometimes they only have one or two, in which case there is no need to have him put on medication.  If it gets worse, then they would have to start him on medication.  I hope he does alright, let me know if you have anymore questions.  Good Luck
