How much is too much

Question
My husbannd and I go around and around about the amount of food to feed our shepherds.  He gives them two huge bowls a day and thinks we should leave the food out all day.  I have found that whatever we put in the bowl of course they eat.  all of them are 92-98 pounds and get plenty of exercise daily as we have 10 acres to run on.  He travels and is convinced that they are too thin, yet everything I read says they should be 65 to 70 lbs.  The youngest is 3, the oldest is 5. and only one is a male...he weighs 108  HELP, how do I convimce him this is not healthy?

Answer
It is best to feed the dogs according to the directions on the dog food bag.  Every dog food is different.  Some have more fillers so the dogs eat more and poop more to get the nutrients they need.  Premium Dog foods require less feeding to get the proper amount of nutrients.

Bone structures are a factor in determining weight.  If your dogs are from heavy German Bloodlines, they will weigh that.
A Female from heavy german lines can weigh 90 lbs.

Most American Breeds are smaller boned and normally weigh less.

It is best to feed Premium Kibble and to feed according to instructions and to remove the bowl after 15 minutes.  Dogs who get a lot of exercise need a little more daily.

Hope This Helps.
