1 yr old GSD and loose stools

Question
My 1 yr old GSD female GSD developed loose stools that has a pale color about a month ago. Prior to that, she has had no health problems. We have spent about $1K so far at the vets for testing and medication and at this point I feel the vet is just guessing as to what might correct the problem. Nothing other than feeding her rice has made any difference in the loose stools. The bottom line is whatever food(dry) my GSD is eating is not being digested and just coming out the other end...I'm glad she's house trained!! This is confirmed by the fact that she has lost about 15#'s since this problem started and appears to always be hungry. Otherwise she is still extremely energetic and just as healthy as she was prior to this issue.

Basically the vet said my GSD is lacking a specific enzyme that allows the digestive system to function correctly. She also said it is common in the GSD breed and that mine might grow out of it.

Can you confirm this or possibly offer any suggestions? I am seriously considering looking for another vet, even though this vet was highly recommended and has a good reputation among show dog owners.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Bob, if she is lacking an enzyme, have they offered any supplement to help?  And my other question would be how can she outgrow it?  She is already a year old, and most of her body is pretty much done growing.  She just has to start the filling out process that happens in the 2nd year of a GSDs' life.  I would get copies of all the vet records and seek another vets opinion.  Wish I could be of more help, but it seems he is sort of guessing at this point.
