Question
My 5 year old has had on and off ear infections for the last 2 years. His current one has not gone away with antibiotics. I have changed to a hypoallergenic food per Vets recommendation. Which he has been on for 1 month. He has copius amounts of green/dark brown drainage from both ears. The Vet is stumped she has no idea why he continues with these infections. What may be causing this to occur repeatedly ?

Answer
Hi Charles,  Chronic ear infections are normally caused by yeast and not enough air getting into the ear to dry it up so the bacteria in the yeast grows and basically becomes an infection.  One little thing you can try to prevent ear infections internally is to add yogurt to his diet.  Just a tablespoon a day to whatever you are feeding.  Give that a try and see how it does.  You are going to need to clear up this one though as yogurt doesn't actually cure them, just prevents them from coming back.  Hope this helps,
