Question
Hello. My wife and I bought a dog about a year ago. We bought it from the SPCA. They told us it was part Chow and part german sheperd. When we took it to the Vet, she said no way was there any chow in it. She guessed part german sheperd and part golden retriever. The dog has some blue spots on its tongue. Its 78lbs. Light tan like a golden retriever. She said that sheperds have blue tongues or blue spots on their tongues. I don't remember which. What do you think?

Answer
HI DANIEL

NO SHEPHERDS HAVE NO BLUE SPOTS ON THEIR TONGUE, BUT CHOWS HAVE BLUE OR BLACK TONGUES.
THIS DOG IS PART CHOW, NOT SHEPHERD, MOST LIKELY THE LAB OR RETRIEVER?  IF ITS EARS STAND THEN ONE COULD SAY HALF SHEPHERD FOR THEY SHOULD IF HALF.  ANY OTHER KIND OF MIXES AND THE EARS ARE DOWN, THERE IS NO SHEPHERD OR VERY LITTLE IN IT.
SORRY.

WARM REGARDS
