Abandoned Rottweiler Mix Puppy

Question
I recently found an abandoned Rottweiler Mix, Probably German Shepherd puppy in my neighborhood. I am 62 with 2 cats. Not to go into too much detail, I have not owned dogs for years and used only my common sense to train the puppy while I had her. I began crate training and kept a ridgid schedule for feeding and going outide to potty. I tried to not give her the impression she could always get a treat for following basic commands. She learned quickly, but would also potty on the floor when she came back in. Too much. I ran an ad but no one claimed her. Since this is a larger more dominate dog breed I did not feel it might be the type of dog for me as a lone woman. The Vet thought she was between 3-4 months, others thought more 2-3 months. The problem with keeping such a puppy is not knowing exactly the temperment of her parents, the treatment prior to her abandonement, and the exact mix. I felt that her biting, nipping, and pulling on my clothes was a little excessive and I began to get very upset and concerned. She would bite at your clothes until she found the skin and many times she drew blood. I tried all the typical corrections, but loud "ouch" and other things only seen to arouse her more. She just would not stop. She was loving in all other aspects and loved any attention she could get. I decided to try to get her adopted and finally found a rural home with three adolescent children , a lab puppy about her age, and two older dogs. My cats were also a problem as of course she wanted to chase them. I miss her greatly even after only two weeks, but not the biting. I feel that I did not give her enough time and possibly I became upset too easily. I have since found out that this could have continued for 3-4 more months. It was hard to let he go, but I hope I have done the right thing. I almost ask for her back but decided that the new home might be in her best interest. I had her vet checked, and took very good care of her. I try to keep in mind that maybe I saved her life and try to find some peace of mind. I can only hope that I have done the right thing. I was very picky about who took her and turned down two people because of their environment. She may have ended up being my best friend and I cant seem to forget her. I could just not bring myself to take her to the animal shelter as they would have put her to sleep. No one would help me and I got no response from rescue centers. I was probably just not prepared or well enough informed considering the situation.

Answer
You did a great thing taking her in and then finding a home for her.  It is sad so many dogs get abandoned.  I am not sure what you are wanting form me now.

If you are thinking of getting another dog, I would suggest an adult, and perhaps a smaller one.  If you work with the rescues, they might even be able to find one friendly to cats.
