New German Sheperd

Question
Hi Dawn,
I have just become the proud owner of a wonderful male GS puppy, he is very intelligent and very very well tempered.
only, he seems to be very interested in licking the floor, only cemented bits and seems to love licking mine and my fiances feet.
he seems also to love biting on leaves, and then spits it out.
he also seems to enjoy crouching under sofas and couches.
i dunno if this is a show of future problems, this is my first German Sheperd and i love him to death, and want him to be most happy and healthy.

All these issues go as soon as we call his name. and he looks up at his with his puppy dog eyes. my fiance forgives him and cuddles him, i tell her not to. but we not sure if we should cuddle him or not.

Can you please give me some help on what the issue is, or is this normal?

Thank you.

Answer
Hi, first off there is nothing wrong with cuddling him.  A lot of dogs lick floors and stuff like that due to coolness of the floor. Also, they will lick feet to help relieve anxiety and show affection.  For some dogs licking feet has a calming affect on them.
Biting leaves is just puppy play and crouching under things is because it is like a den to him, and they feel secure being in a den situation.  That is why crates are so good for them, because they are confining and give the feeling of a den to them.  Hope this helps, and if you have anymore questions, just give me a holler.
