bathing a german shepherd

Question
We have a three year old male german shepherd that sheds an incredible amount
which we handle as we can by twice daily brushings with the thing called a
"furminator" - my question is whether we should bathe him - we lived many
years in France where they say bathe only if the are obviously dirty or stinking
which our dog is not - what do you think?

Answer
I admit I am on the fringe, but I seldom if ever bathe a dog.  I don't think you would need to use the Furminator all the time.  Between the spring and fall sheddings, you should be able to go with daily brushings with a soft bristle brush.

When the dog needs it, give it a bath.  Aster lived with us from 10 t0 15 years old without a single bath.  Being a Lab, she did enjoy frequent swims.
