My dog doesnt like the new puppy

My 6 year old female dog doesn't really like are new 10 week old German Shepard male puppy. She growls at him and came close to biting him once. My dog is a big dog and I don't want her to hurt the puppy. What should I do?

Hi Tori,  She is just doing what nature is telling her, which is maintain her position in the pack as the leader.  When introducing a new puppy, the lead dog always will feel threatened and will growl at the puppy to let them know they are the leader and keep them in line.  He will give into her as he is supposed to.  If for some reason she tries to get too tough, keep some spray bottles with water in them around so you can spray her to correct her.  Everytime you spray her, make sure and say "no" so she knows she is being corrected.  Hope this helps,
