Question
We rescued a White German Shepherd at 5 weeks old, July 2. Through then to August we thought she was growing rapidly. Now she's 5 months old and still only weighs 20 lbs. She's about 15 1/2 inches tall and from neck to butt she's 17 inches. This can't be right, can it? Do WGS grow slower? We're feeding her 2 cups of Eukanuba and soft food as well to keep her eating and hopefully growing.

Answer
Huuuuuuuuuuum, My grandpuppy Augen was 20 pounds at 8 weeks.  I see some all black German Shepherds, but few all whites.  As far as I remember, the whites were normal sized.  It sounds like she is not going to be a normal sized Shepherd.  Do you know she is purebred?

The main thing to do is look at body condition and hope she eats enough to at least almost hide her ribs.  Many young Shepherds will only eat enough to keep themselves on the low side of normal.  See http://www.puppychow.com/products/popup_body_condition.aspx  You have discussed this with the vet and he checked her for worms?  Perhaps even rechecked  Sometimes tape worms are hard to find.  My friends went through that with one Shepherd they couldn't keep her ribs hidden.

Eukanuba should be a fine food.  It might be best to cut her over to adult chow now, and drop the soft food.  She is going to stay lean no matter what you do.
