Question
QUESTION: I acquired a gs/husky 4 yr old dog from a friend. She weights about 48 lbs. She has one blue eye and one brown. She is new to my home and is in the adjustement process. She has not been spayed but has not had a cycle, per the report of the friend, for over 2 yrs. I would like to mate her, but does this mean that she is unable to get pregnant?
Would I be able to breed her with another gs/husky mix that is a few inches shorter than her?

ANSWER: First of all, I must ask, why would you want to breed a mixed breed dog? What do you intend on doing with the pups? I can't really advise you on breeding this female, because it's just not something that I would do. If I understood the motivation behind breeding her then perhaps I might. There are just so many dogs being put down every day as it is, and so many in need of homes, and foster homes, that I can't advise breeding a mixed breed dog. These dogs will be large, aggressive, intelligent animals that will need homes who understand how to deal with dogs of this genetic makeup. Placing them will be a huge responsibility and I can't imagine that it would be profitable in any way. I'm open to your point of view, so please feel free to share. Sorry that I can't answer your question in reality. But I have to be honest in my answers.

QUESTION: My intentions to mate these two dogs are not for profit regardless of the size of the litter I will keep 4 and family members are already willing to take the others. My dog is roughly 13 years old therefore his days are numbered my family would like to mate him before he passes so that we have a part of him when he does

Answer
I can understand that. :) I hope it turns out well for you..
To answer your question. Since this female hasn't been in heat in two years, there's a possibility she may not come into heat at all. I'd take her to the vet and have her checked to be SURE she's not spayed and a hormone level check probably wouldn't hurt. Barring that you can wait and see if she does come in heat. I would be surprised if she came into heat now after all that time, however stranger things have happened! As for size, dogs can do amazing things, so it is definitely not a problem that your boy is a couple of inches shorter :)
