choosing between a male and a femal puppy

Question
I have two children, ages 2 and 5.  I'm planning on getting a German Shepherd puppy.  Is there a difference between a male and a female puppy in terms of getting along with my children.  Is one more protective than the other.

Answer
Hi,  Female dogs are more protective than males when they get old enough to be protective.  You don't want to see any protective ability until at least a year of age.  Until then they are not mentally mature enough to understand about being protective.  Females are more protective of their den area, which makes them better family protectors.  Hope this helps,
