Question
I always wanted a German shepherd dog but after doing research everyone says that they try to become the dominate leader in the house.how can I prevent this and how should i train them for obedience behavior. And my last question is how do scold your dog without using any violence because i don't want my German shepherd to be scared of me.

Answer
Dogs are individuals and yes some Shepherds do ty to become dominant.  The best thing to do is to act like a dominant dog yourself.  The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. Start at http://www.dogsbestfriend.com/ Patricia McConnell has some good books too.  Look for ones using modern positive methods but including leadership.

The best thing to do if a dog misbehaves is to give it a sharp ''Ah, ah, ah!'' and divert it with something such as a chew toy.
