Question
I HAVE A LONG HAIR BLONDE SHEPARD AND BOTH FRONT LEGS OR ELBOWS HAVE CALLUS ON THEM AND THEY GET HOT TO TOUCH AND ONE HAS A TUMOR ON THE EDGE OF CALLUS AND THE CALLUS WILL BLEED SOMETIME. THE VET SAID THERE IS NOTHING HE CAN DO BUT PUT HIM DOWN. DO YOU KNOW WHAT CAN BE DONE? OR HOW OR IF HE WOULD BE IN PAIN? PLEASE LET ME HEAR FROM YOU RIGHT AWAY. THANKS BARBARA

Answer
If the calluses were causing pain, the dog will often lick them or give other attention.  If the dog is ignoring them, maybe you should too.  I would make sure he has something soft to lie on.  Just checked my 13 year old lab.  She had elbow calluses 3 years ago when she came to live with us.  She has a bed and a beanbag she is allowed on.  Her callus largely are gone.  Right now, she is sleeping on the hardwood floor.  Having a nice bed doesn't mean they will use it.

You might check a second vet.
