Changing Food

Question
My english bulldog, Bella, is 13 months old and she seems to be having a bit of an allergic reaction to her food. I recently switched her over to Innova adult food and her stools were fine, but now she is biting at her paws and the vet said she is developing hives. The twist is that I'm staying with my father for the next few months and he has three retrievers. One of them, Tucker, has hypothyroid and also has food allergies. My father's vet recommended that he switch the dogs over to California Natural Reduced Calorie dry food so Tucker's allergies will be relieved and he won't gain any weight (they were all previously on Iams Weight Control for his thyroid and another dog's weight problem). Bella weighs about 57 pounds and her vet said getting her down to around 55 would be preferable, but there's not a huge concern about her weight. My question is, would it be OK for me to switch her over to the California Natural as well? Since the dogs are all living together and have been free fed all their lives, it will be incredibly difficult to separate them if they're eating different foods. I've read good things about the brand, but do you have any experience with it? Is it good for bulldogs and if so, would you recommend the Lamb and Rice or the Chicken and Rice formula? Thanks so much for your help.

Answer
My vet recommends California Natural and swears by it. I use the biscuits as treats for my dogs. If I didn't have a house full I would probably use their food as well. I would go with the chicken and rice is you want to avoid caustic gas emissions which accompany any lamb based products.

Take about a week to do the change over, gradually adding the CN and reducing the Innova.
