Question
We have a 20 month old male boxer.  He is neutered.  We have been feeding him IAMs puppy food since we got him when he was 10 weeks old.  He is thriving and has no issues at all.

Tonight I spent quite sometime with the manager at a pet store trying to determine what dog food to buy for him.  She showed me labels and told me that you want less fillers and more whole products etc.

I've had boxers my whole life.  Traditionally we fed them Pedigree dog food.  My dad and his wife bred boxers for quite some time and that is what he fed his dogs.  My last boxer lived until she was 14 years old.

At this point I'm assuming that the most natural dogs foods are probably the best.  However, at $45 per bag for 30#'s vs $37 per bag of 40#'s (Iams), I'm trying to determine if there is a significant difference for the dog.  In these trying economic times I'm trying balance economics and well being for the dog.

Thanks for your advice.

Answer
Iams and Pedigree have corn and glutens and fillers.

There is no law on dog food labeling and advertising; they can say what they want, and claim what they want.

Iams testing is inhumane and cruel and Peta and most animals lovers protest them. Google it.

I prefer Dick Van Patten Natural Balance (yes, the retired actor)

If you are interested in distributors and prices, click on the upper left "order online" (or what ever it says)

Whatever you decide and choose, do not have corn and do not have glutens.

This is hard unless you pay $38 at least.

Check out the Natural Balance on his website and go to the different dealers online and price them.
