Question
My boxers are always hungry, I am not sure if I am feeding them enough.  I have a 3 1/2 month old that I feed 1 cup, 3 times a day of puppy chow.  Is that enough?  I also have a five year old that I feed 1 1/2 cups twice a day, but the vet states that he needs to lose weight.  What do you think?

Answer
Hi. About your puppy....is he growing good, and are his ribs covered well? If so, then he's eating plenty. If he looks puny, isn't growing well, or stays next to the food bowl, then I would up his food. When they hit growth spurts, they'll tend to be a bit more hungry and will need extra food. As for your older dog, the vet says he needs to lose weight, then I would exercise him more. How much weight does he need to lose? They do have certain dog foods out there that will help overweight dogs, you may want to check in to those, but more exercise will be best. This is tricky, you'll just have to play with the food amounts until you find what works best for your dogs. What works for your dogs may be too much or too little for what is best for someone else's dogs, and vice versa. Good luck.
