Thank you for your help. The male is 8yrs old and he seems to know what he's doing. My female is just to high up I think.

-----Question-----
I have a 2yr old female who is ready to breed and in heat. We have selected a male and they have had two unsuccessful mating session. They just won't connect. We don't know what to try to make it happen. The male seems to be hitting right under her vulva.

Hi Kirsten,

First off, note the age and experience of the male. Has he had any successful matings? Is he very much smaller than her? All of this came be a majoring factor. If he will tolerate it you can try giving him that extra needed lift or spreading her lags a bit to make her lower. Otherwise, time is of the essance and you may want to just artificialy inseminate her. This can be done by collecting his sperm manually into a baggie, filling it into a syringe...without the needle...and inserting it into her.
Or you may want to find a more experienced male.
Best of luck...Lisa

Answer
Kirsten,
You know, I have the same thing going on here though I think my male is inexperienced.
But really, if you get down on the floor and hold her facing you and let him approach her with one hand hold her collar, and the other hand reach under her and slide one back leg further out so she gets a little lower. Keep up a steady crooning to her to keep her calm. Once the mating has occured, still hold onto her because if she tries to drag him around he can get hurt. I really hope this works for you, please let me know.
Best...Lisa
