I am baffeled as to why she does this and do not know what to do about it shes been doing this since she was 8 months old and he turns two this sunday... any advice would be apprecated...I had told my vet he eats poop and they did Not reccomend anything to her.

Answer
Hi Tara.  The tendency for some animals to eat their poop is known as coprophagy, and is common among dogs. As you now already know, once coprophagy has become a habit, it is very difficult to break.

There are many popular theory as to some animals eat their poop. Diet, stress and another theory is that it taste good (to them that is.)

If your vet did not recommend anything for her, then I'm going to assume that she is in good health, and that there is no medical reason for her to be eating her poop.

I'm not surprised to read that the tablets you purchased at the pet store didn't help.  I have never heard anyone say that these type of products work.

Some people try putting Tabasco sauce or cayenne pepper (chili powder) on the poop (not the food!). Unfortunately, some dogs have acquired quite a taste for Tabasco. These methods work best if the behavior has just started.

Some dog trainers suggest that it is helpful to find something that is more fun for the dog than eating poop. That a Kong toy laced with peanut butter a better alternative.

Good Luck, and please let me know what works for you and your boston so I can pass on the information to others.  Sincerely, Penny D.
