Question
Hi,

I have a 2yr old male Maine Coon cat (indoors only his whole life).  I feel like he should have a companion during the day.  How can I tell if my cat will except his new friend?  I am trying to help him, but I do not want to hurt his feelings?

Please help.  Thanks!
Denise

Answer
Hi Denise....

I don't think you will hurt his feelings.  All cats require a period of adjustment, but the best thing you can do for an only child, is give it a companion.  Choose a kitten for a much better chance of assuring that they will get along.  Some cats take only a couple of days to get thru the adjustment phase, others require two weeks and even a month, but that isn't likely.  If you get a kitten, most cats cannot resist a kitten.  They will want to play with it.

I applaud you for keeping your cat an indoor only cat.  It assures them a much longer, healthier life.  I hope I have helped some.  Write again if you have further questions.  I always like to help.  Barb
